DesiringGod.org Free Sermons, Books and Articles on Christianity |
| DesiringGod is a ministry of Dr. John Piper, Pastor for Preaching at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The website provides over 30 years of books, articles and sermons (organized by topic, Scripture, series or date) to help you find joy in God. I have been personally blessed and challenged by the idea promoted by Piper that "God is most glorified in me when I am most satisfied in Him." |

Pastor Dad A Free e-Book on Being a Christian Father |
| This small but powerful book has helped me keep my priorities in place as a young father. Though I am far from perfect, this book reminds me of the grace there is in Jesus and the goal that fathers should be striving toward with their children. My hope is that every parent in the youth ministry would read it. |
|
How Children Raise Parents by Dan Allender A Book on Parenting |
| I have personally never read this book but have heard great things about it and plan to read it in 2011. |
|
A Book You'll Actually Read...Series by Mark Driscoll Small, Informational Books on Christianity |
| This series of short, to the point books is especially helpful for the person who wants to get to know Christianity, the Bible or the Church and hasn't grown up in the Church. I've found the series very helpful as someone who has grown up in the church because the content is written in such down-to-earth language. Each book should take you about one hour to read and the series includes books on The Old Testament, The New Testament, Church Leadership, and Who is God. |

Eastgate Bible Chapel Sunday Services - 9:30am and 11am |
| Eastgate is a church of about 120 people ranging from infants to the elderly that seeks to bring glory to God. We would obviously love it if you attended Eastgate on Sunday mornings, but we also realize that some people would grow in their faith better at another Christian church, so we've included a few other recommendations below. |
|
Spring Mountain Eastgate's Sister-Church in Clackamas |
| Spring Mountain is one of Eastgate's several sister churches in the Portland area. I am good friends with their youth pastor, Daniel Meadows, and our youth groups often partner together for events like the annual New Year's All-Nighters. SMBC is similar in style to Eastgate. |
|
The Gathering Community Church Meets at FLMS |
| The Gathering Community Church meets every Sunday morning at Floyd Light Middle School (just 6 blocks West of Eastgate) and serves SE Portland by preaching the Bible very well. They are a community of loving people who would point you to Jesus and take very good care of your physical and spiritual needs. |
|
Abundant Life A Large Church |
| Abundant Life is one megachurch that meets in three locations. They have a campus in Happy Valley, Parkrose and Sandy. This church seeks to be very relevant and contemporary to the current culture. It teaches mostly topical sermons. |

Door of Hope An Emerging Church |
| Door of Hope is a fairly new church planted by pastor and singer/songwriter Josh White. It is located in the Hawthorne district. A few of my friends attend Door of Hope and speak very highly of it. |

Eastgate Food Bags Two Bags of Food per Family per Month |
| Eastgate has a generous food pantry ministry and each week gives several food bags to people in our community who need a helping hand. The bags are packed full of different kinds of pre-packaged foods, along with toiletry items such as paper towels and toothpaste. Each family is eligible for two food bags per month. To receive your food bag just come ring the doorbell at Eastgate during office hours (10am-2pm, Mon-Thur) and someone will help you. Please don't feel shy about letting us bless you in this way! |

Parenting Class Provided through the East Portland Community Center |
| The parenting class is offered through the East Portland Community Center and taught by a Christian friend of mine named Ben Burns. Ben is a very godly, knowledgable and down-to-earth parent who serves his community well. He is also a national conference speaker on marriage and the family. He has been using the Love and Logic curriculum as a volunteer instructor on parenting at Cherry Park Elementary School where his three children attend. The class is five weeks long and costs $40 (feel free to request some financial assistance from our youth ministry budget). Click the link to view the EPCC catalog and go to page 37 (of the catalog, not of the PDF) for scheduling information. |
|
The SUN Program For Floyd Light Students |
| Floyd Light's SUN (Schools Uniting Neighborhoods) Program is a unique after-school program that turns the school into a free community center for students. Parents who want to provide their students with enriching after-school activities can register them for classes like Homework Club, Hip Hop Dance, Movie Making (which I am teaching during Winter Term 2011), and others (not all classes are available every term). Contact a Floyd Light administrator for details about this program. SUN also provides a full range of services to meet your family's needs (such as early childhood programs, anti-poverty, mental health and addiction). Click the link above to learn more. |

Jesus God Become Man to Die In Your Place For Your Sins To Bring You to God |
| Above all, we want to point you to Jesus, the ultimate resource for experiencing true life and joy, hope and meaning. Jesus (God the Son) created you to have a right relationship with Him, we wronged that relationship with rebellious thoughts, words and deeds, and Jesus came to make it right again. Jesus did not wait for us to pursue Him; He pursued us. He lived a perfect life, the life you could never live, and died a brutal death, the death you should have died, in your place, for your sins, to bring you to God the Father. Nothing else on this website or in this world matters if you don't know and love Jesus who is willing to save you from sin, Satan, demons, death and Hell (2 Corinthians 5:21; Romans 10:9). |

Eastgate's Elders Competent and Compassionate Men of God |
| There are six Elders at Eastgate who care about you even though they don't know you because they love this city and the community surrounding their church. They range from their 30's to their 60's in age and together have more than 120 years of parenting and ministry experience. I trust these men with my life and encourage you, if you have a spiritual or family need that cannot be met by our youth leadership staff, to pursue their wisdom as a resource. |
